In my studio "paper arts" starts with making paper from plants in my garden and other vegetals that I can find around Oakland or that come from other gardens. With these or other handmade paper, I create marbled art, handbound books, decorated papers. Because my photographs are printed on paper, I include them in the paper arts idea.
“My passion for "marbling", an ancient form of painting on water, is the foundation on which I have developed these exquisite journals and refined paper creations by grinding pigments, playing with fibers and colors. The shapes and images flowing from my imagination further influence each art piece resulting in an artistic tapestry, which glides gracefully from my hands to your eyes intertwining my vision of the world with yours."

Marbling is a single print process, done by manipulating paint that is floated on the surface of a thickened water solution. The floating paint is then transferred from the water onto paper, fabric or any other porous surface.
Hand Bookbinding is the process of folding sheets of paper, then sewing them together through the fold. There several methods of bookbindings, the oldest are the Egyptian, the Jewish and Greek scrolls. Sutras were also written on palm leaves and precede the 1st Century. Coptic bindings by the early Coptic Christians of Egypt and Ethiopia were actually the first book held together by covers and sewn by hand.
My Paper Art will be available at: Art on the Main in Walnut Creek on Saturday and Sunday, May 16 and 17. This is one of the biggest cultural events in Walnut Creek.
